Food Hygiene Star Award
The local authorities in South Yorkshire (Sheffield, Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster) have launched a hygiene award scheme for food businesses.
Following an inspection by authorised officers from the council the food business is awarded zero (very poor) to 5 stars (excellent) and this is an indication of the level of compliance with food safety legislation .
The scoring system is based on the Food Law Code of Practice issued by the Food Standards Agency and the business is assessed against the following criteria:
• The standard of hygiene
• The structural condition
• Confidence in management
